Our mission
To empower cancer patients and their caregivers to take control over their diagnoses from the moment they learn they have cancer, a recurrence or metastases through ten years of follow-up care. Having a plan of attack, the means to stay organized, and access to appropriate resources and information is half the battle to getting through a cancer diagnosis. CANCER101 (C101) meets the patient and caregiver on the front line and turns what is often a chaotic experience into a calm and organized plan of attack. And just as important, C101 is there after the treatments are over to help survivors manage important post-treatment appointments, medications and survivorship issues.

WHY CANCER101?
The C101 organization was developed and inspired by Executive Director Monica Knoll's experience with breast cancer in a major metropolitan city and the experiences of countless other breast cancer patients and survivors she met along the way to recovery:

"In addition to breast cancer, we all shared one thing in common: frustration - the frustration of finding oneself thrust into a new world of medical information as well as health care, websites, books, support groups and institution choices which only escalated our overwhelming fears.  We were not stymied by our excellent medical care, but by the day-to-day demands of balancing our treatment with work, finances, relationships and emotional well-being in the face of cancer.

"C101 believes that developing a plan of attack, having the means to stay organized as well as access to appropriate resources and information is half the battle of getting through this difficult and traumatic time.  In addition, C101 recognizes the need for patients to have a city guide to help them find the necessary products and services associated with the treatment process.

"Based on extensive research, interviews and personal experience there is nothing like the C101 offerings currently available to cancer patients.  Some offerings that are similar are difficult for patients to access or are too expensive for patients with limited funds.  The distribution mechanism of C101 is truly ground breaking, innovative and necessary."
