Privacy Policy for CANCER101, Inc.

Last Updated April 2011

This Privacy Policy ("Privacy Policy") describes what information we collect from you, how we use that information, how we protect and secure it, and what choices you have regarding how your information is used. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, the terms "we," "us," "our," and "CANCER101" refer to CANCER101, Inc. "You" and "your" refers to you, as a user of the Site. "Site" refers to www.CANCER101.org and all webpages contained within the CANCER101.org domain. By using the Site in any way, you signify your agreement to this Privacy Policy and consent to our collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

While you are visiting the Site, we may collect two types of information about you: "Personal Information" and "Aggregate Information."

Personal Information

CANCER101 may obtain Personal Information about you only if you elect to give us that information or if you are designated as an Account Guardian by a user of an Online Planner (as defined below). "Personal Information" may include: your name, address, email address, telephone number, credit card or debit card information, gender, age, Facebook username, Twitter username, personal preferences, information about your experience with and/or interest in cancer, other medical information, any information you include in your Online Planner, and how you heard about the Site, as well as other personal information that you voluntarily provide to us if you contact us via email or otherwise.

Most of the Site does not require any form of registration, allowing you to visit the Site without telling us who you are or giving us any Personal Information. However, in certain situations, such as to register with CANCER101, make a donation, complete a survey, use the Online Planner, or order a planner, event ticket or other service or product, you may be required to enter Personal Information. When doing so, you must complete certain fields. In these situations, if you choose to withhold any Personal Information that is required, it may not be possible for you to register with the Site or complete a proposed transaction.

Aggregate Information

While you can access and browse the Site without disclosing any Personal Information, we do collect Aggregate Information about your interaction with the Site.

"Aggregate Information" is non-personally identifiable/anonymous information about you, such as the website you came from (known as the "referring URL"), the time and date of access, webpages most frequently accessed by you, time spent on a webpage or area of the Site, the number of visits to the Site by you, type of browser used by you, cookie preferences, or search terms entered by you. Aggregate Information is used in a collective manner, and no one person can be identified by that compiled information (for example, the number of people who logged onto the Site in a particular day).

How We Use Information

CANCER101 limits the use of information obtained on the Site to the following:

  • If you provide Personal Information (including any Personal Information you voluntarily provide to us when you contact us via email or otherwise), we will enter such Personal Information into our database and use that information to gain information about who is visiting the Site and to further improve the Site contents and offerings for our users. We may also contact you to respond to your inquiry, including inquiries about volunteering, donating or using the Online Planner, enable you to make a donation, complete a survey, order a planner, event ticket or other service or product, supply you with a newsletter or other information, or request voluntary information or monetary contributions.
  • We will use the Aggregate Information derived from your use of the Site to manage and improve the Site and our services to you. These uses may include making the Site or services easier to use by eliminating the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information, performing research and analysis aimed at improving our products, services and technologies and providing our sponsors with website traffic information.
  • We will also use information as specified in the sections entitled "Sharing of Information" and "Online Planner" below.
Sharing of Information

We do not share Personal Information with any third parties other than your Account Guardian in the circumstances described below and other than as necessary for third parties to perform services on behalf of CANCER101. We occasionally hire third parties to provide limited services on our behalf, such as website hosting, administering surveys, processing, mailing and delivering orders, sending information about our products and services, and updating our sponsors about the general preferences and interests of the Site’s users. However, such third parties are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of Personal Information and are not authorized to use Personal Information for any purpose other than providing those services.

We may sell, share or otherwise provide certain Personal Information to third parties for use in scientific research and market research. However, prior to providing any Personal Information to third parties, we would de-identify such information in such a way that you cannot be identified.

In addition, we may release Personal Information we have collected when legally required to do so, at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation, to verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing the Site and applicable laws, or to protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the Site. We also reserve the right to share, assign, or transfer your Personal Information to any of our affiliates or to any successor in interest to our organization by merger, sale of assets, reorganization, or operation of law.

With regard to the Personal Information of our donors, we will not sell, trade or share any such Personal Information with anyone else, nor will we send mailings to any donor on behalf of other organizations without such donor’s consent.

Online Planner

You may also choose to use CANCER101's online planner, located on the Site ("Online Planner") and to enter and store information and other content in the Online Planner (collectively, "Online Planner Information"). If your Online Planner has not been accessed for more than one year, your Online Planner Information will be permanently deleted from our system. CANCER101 will e-mail you two notices prior to removing your Online Planner Information from our system. Additionally, you may assign an Account Guardian who may obtain access to your Online Planner and related Online Planner Information should anything happen to you. CANCER101 will contact your Account Guardian if we do not receive a reply from you after two attempts at contacting you. CANCER101 will not otherwise communicate with your Account Guardian.

We recommend that you let your Account Guardian know you have designated him/her as your Account Guardian. If your Online Planner has not been accessed for more than one year, and then CANCER101 does not receive a reply from you after two e-mail attempts and does not receive a reply from your Account Guardian, your Online Planner Information will be deleted and will no longer be accessible to you (or any of your family members) or your Account Guardian.

You may also request that CANCER101 delete your Online Planner account and related Online Planner Information at any time.

Cookies

The Site may use cookies to enhance your experience while using the Site. Cookies are small files that are sent to your web browser and stored on your computer’s hard drive to improve your experience on the Site. The cookie is used to speed up your access to the Site and the information you see on the Site, but it does not contain any Personal Information. The majority of web browsers accept cookies. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your web browser to refuse cookies. Please be aware that if you block cookies, some areas of the Site may not function properly.

Use of Clear Gifs/Web Beacons

We may employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. web beacons) that helps us better manage content on the Site by informing us what content is effective. We do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to your Personal Information.

How We Protect Information

While there is no practical way to absolutely assure the security of information you supply us, we take steps we believe are reasonably designed to protect your information from unauthorized access. We have security measures in place that we believe are adequate to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of information that we have collected from you at the Site.

Your Rights and Correcting Information

You can update or change your Personal Information at any time and as often as necessary by sending an email to info@CANCER101.org.

You can unsubscribe from communications you no longer wish to receive from us. We provide unsubscribe (opt-out) instructions in our email communications.

Information from Children

Since the Site is not designed specifically for children, CANCER101 does not intentionally collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected Personal Information from a person under the age of 13, we will delete it immediately.

This Privacy Policy applies only to the Site and not to any third party websites. We may provide links to other websites that we believe may be of interest to the Site users. Though we strive to ensure that such websites are of the highest standard, CANCER101 cannot guarantee the standards of every website it provides a link to, or be responsible for the privacy policies and procedures of such third party websites or for the content, information, goods or services available through such websites. We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy, along with related procedures, at any time. We will post changes to this Privacy Policy on the Site in a timely manner. You are bound by any changes to this Privacy Policy after those changes have been posted. Please check back periodically, especially before you provide any Personal Information.
