C101 provides the tools and resources that patients and caregivers need to make sense of the overwhelming information and difficult emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis. This important information is made available in three ways:
THE CANCER101 PLANNER AND FIVE-POCKET FOLDER: Our main program, the three-ring, tabbed notebook includes everything a patient needs to stay organized during treatments and ten years of follow-up appointments. Following the first appointment with an oncology specialist, patients leave their cancer center with an essential tool that includes a vetted list of national resources, important questions to ask their health care team, a glossary of medical terminology and a section for tracking medical bills, insurance information, business cards and more.
The Planner also includes essential information provided by prominent organizations including: American Society of Clinical Oncology, Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups, and Livestrong.org. In 2010, patients will be able to download or order a hard copy of tumor-specific information (provided by 14 leading advocacy organizations) to insert into their planners. Inserts for nutrition, wellness, fitness, beauty and end-of-life will be available as well.
The planners are also rigorously edited by the NYU Cancer Institute’s Patient Education Committee.
THE WEB SITE, www.CANCER101.org: In addition to an online organizer, our Web site offers a live calendar of national teleconferences, webinars, annual conferences, and retreats. We also provide information about thousands of support groups, wellness classes and lectures in major cities including New York, Chicago, Boston and coming soon, Los Angeles.
